Deb Karash / USA

Deb brings color to metal using a technique more often used on paper.  To achieve the deeply layered colors and graphic designs in her work she has developed a technique for drawing on copper with colored pencils. Each piece is a combination of sterling silver and copper and sometimes 24K gold leaf. A fascination with texture, color, and pattern has always informed my work but these pieces go a step further. These brooches reside on a painted panel as mixed media wall sculpture but can be removed to wear. For some the brooch inspired the painting and for others the opposite is true. Deb feels that jewelry is the most personal of art forms but it can have a life off of the body.
