Zhanna Assanova /   Kazakhstan (currently in Pakistan)

For Zhanna the most important thing is not the jewelry itself (a ring, a necklace or a brooch) but, first of all, the idea, she is willing to express herself truly and sincerely. For a long time, she hasn’t considered herself to be creative enough because of her uneasy family relationship and conservative attitude views on art in the family. It took her time to change her family circumstances and become self-confident - and to return to realization of her ideas. In spite or thanks to the burden of the new experience, her jewelry acquired more emotionality and inner freedom.

Zhanna’s artistic method is to mix the colors, textures, forms and materials in a spontaneous manner until the certain structure emerges from this chaos. She often fills her works with colorful picturesque landscapes of my homeland and also of her temporary home in Pakistan with traditional techniques of Kazakhstan applied art. Not having an academic education in jewelry and design, she keeps embodying her personal thoughts, reflecting socially significant changes in my country. At the moment she is working on the development and popularization of the contemporary jewelry field in Kazakhstan, as well as on the deepening of her own artistic approach and practice, trying to detect new points of contact between jewelry and emotional experience.
